Planning for family photos can be so exciting, but also can sometimes be stressful but don’t you worry I am here to help take that off your shoulders! Here are some of the best tips to help you prepare for your next family photo shoot!
1. Prepare your kiddos!
Make sure you tell them what is going on and get them excited about it! Getting them, all hyped up about getting pictures taken will surely help the process! They might even want to come up with their own pose which is perfect because the whole point of a family photo shoot is to get your family’s true personalities on camera, so make it fun!
Also don’t be afraid to use bribing during the session like “if you cooperate and smile big, we can go out for pizza, or ice cream!” Just do whatever is best for your family!
2. Make sure everyone is fed & well rested!
Being well rested & full can go a long way during a photo shoot. If need be, you are more than welcome to bring snacks for the session, & honestly, I encourage you to because hanger is a real thing! 😊
3. Plan Ahead!
The most asked question that I get asked for family sessions is wardrobe and what to wear. First off, plan to get all outfits figured out at least one week before your session day. This will ensure that you have everything you need and will be ready to go for the day of your photo shoot.
If you are stumped on what to wear (which can be super stressful & happens all the time) to make it easier for you I recommend sticking to more neutral and solid colors. If you all wear a different design or colored shirts, your outfits will clash. Colors that I recommend that you can never go wrong with are beige, whites, creams, greys, tans, etc. If you have a specific photo shoot, for example fall, plan on wearing colors like browns, creams, rustic oranges, dark yellows, tans, dark greens, etc.
Never dress more than two people in the same color, try to coordinate a couple of different colors that will go together nicely.
Lastly, if you are still stuck or need another opinion on your family outfits, please reach out to your photographer and they would love to help you prepare for your session day.
4. Relax & Have Fun!
Sounds obvious right? Well, with all the stress going on inside our minds making sure you have everything you need and making sure everyone is happy can take a tole on your attitude, so just remember that staying positive and letting your kiddos true personalities shine, your session will be fun and go smoothly! 😊
