Newborn photography will always be one of my favorite kinds of sessions! These tiny little bundles of joys offer so much love and I am so grateful that I get to work with newborns weekly! Nothing is more special than the birth of a brand-new baby and the amount of love that your heart holds for your child, even more than you ever imagined!
Newborn sessions can take anywhere from 1-3 hours. This is because when you first arrive to my studio, I always have mama's feed their little ones, on a rare occasion like this sweet pea, babies won't always be hungry right away and if that is the case we will just go ahead and get started! Once the baby is fed, I usually start with baby wrapped and a prop shot, this helps baby get relaxed and cozy, by being all bundled up. Doing the wrapped shots first also helps older siblings get comfortable and open up so that when I go to do family photos next, they are usually warmed up and talking away at this point! Then after the family photos are done, I usually send dad with the older one to take them to the nearby park so that they don't have to be waiting for baby brother or sister to be done. This also helps create a calm and quiet environment for the newborn to help keep them asleep and not disturbed.
This sweet pea is one of few newborns that I have that never ate and slept through her entire session like a little dream! She was so cozy the whole session, so we didn't bother waking her to feed her because she was comfy, and we didn't want to disturb her. Babies will let us know if they are hungry or uncomfortable and I always watch for their cues to get them what they need to get them cozy again. Some babies don't mind being undressed and posed while other babies hate it and would prefer to be either wrapped or have clothes on and in this case, I have a newborn wardrobe that I have for parents to choose what outfits they would like to see in their photos. This helps to make sure to have something for every baby because each and every baby could prefer something different!
